EYC, NURSERY, SUNDAY SCHOOL, AND YOUTH NEWS
- Volunteers needed each Sunday to assist Sarah in the Nursery. We need to always have two adults present with our children in their programs. We hope to get enough volunteers that you will only have to serve once every 2 to 3 months. If you are interested in helping, please call the church office (601-544-5551). We are also looking for a paid substitute for Sarah on Sunday morning when she needs to be off.
- ADULTS WORKING WITH YOUTH WORKSHOP: October 3-4, 2008, Gray Center, Canton. Once a year, our parish and diocesan youth leaders - paid and volunteer, veterans and newbies, EYC leaders, Sunday School teachers, bible study leaders, Journey to Adulthood leaders, clergy, you name it! - meet at Gray Center for a weekend of renewal, refreshment, remembering, and resource sharing! Some years we bring in speakers on special topics in youth ministry. Other years we provide a series of workshops on a wide variety of topics. Every year, we provide opportunities for hands-on learning of new games, new discussion starters, new bible studies, and new music. We also brainstorm hundreds of ideas and resources for youth programs and activities. For more information:

- WANTED: AN ADULT VOLUNTEER TO COORDINATE AND LEAD THE EYC YOUTH GROUP. If you are a young-ish adult who feels called to lead our high-school youth program, please call Fr. Bill or Linda Trussell at 601-554-5551.

NEW CONSTRUCTION FUND ESTABLISHED
The vestry approved the creation of a "New Construction Fund" to receive donations that will be used for the construction of new facilities and structures on our Church campus. One project - a porte cochère (covered driveway) over the alley - is presently under consideration. Other projects are likely to be forthcoming as we engage in long-range planning. If you wish to donate funds for new construction projects on our campus, simply write a check to "Trinity Episcopal Church" and put "New Construction Fund" on the memo line.

FUTURE EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
THE PARISH ACTIVITIES COMMISSION REPORT FOR THE VESTRY IS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 30. E-MAIL TO wgstroop@earthlink.net
The Literary Nature of the Bible: Jameela Lares, Professor of English at USM, will present four lectures on the Bible as literature on consecutive Tuesdays at 6 pm at Ascension, beginning September 23. While the Bible is the sacred text which instructs Christian doctrine and beliefs, it is also a work of literature. Most of its books are full of stories, riddles, poems and even epics. Its study as literature can open doors to a deeper understanding of the Bible and its teachings. The four sessions will be an Introduction, Narrative in the Old Testament, Poetry in the Old Testament, and forms in the New Testament. Dr. Lares, who received her PhD from the University of Southern California, is a Milton scholar and has research and teaching interests in the English Renaissance, 17th Century literature, the Bible and Biblical style, and the history of rhetoric including English Reformed preaching.
CHURCH SECURITY CODES TO CHANGE. On October 15, we will change the security codes on the key pads as you enter the church, educational building, and offices. If you have a key to the building, please come by the church office before October 15 to get the new codes.
Rector's Forum Sept 28 will continue the discussion we began on September 14 about the recent Lambeth Conference.

HOLY LEISURE a silent retreat with special guidance from licensed Spiritual Directors November 7-9. Maybe it's a reaction to our hectic, media-driven new century, or perhaps it's just the logical progression for those who seek a life in Christ. Whatever the reason, our HOLY LEISURE silent retreats are attracting seekers of all ages. Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) reminds us of the importance of quieting our minds and calming our spirits in order to hear God's presence in our lives. Under the guidance of licensed trained Spiritual Directors, participants will be given spiritual tools that will allow the "ambient noise" of our lives to diminish and be fully present with God. For registration information please contact The Rev. Debo Dykes, debo@dioms.org or 601-948-5954.
Ride Needed to Church. One of our parishioners lives at the Pine Meadows Center adjacent to Loyalton on Fox Chase, just off 28th about half way between the medical center and Lincoln Road. She wants to attend the 10:30 am Sunday service and needs a ride to and from church. If you can provide transportation for her, please call Fr. Bill at 601-329-3538.

TEACH THEM TO FISH MINISTRY
Support the "Teach Them to Fish" Honduran Mission. About a year and a half ago John DeLancy and Chris Tardy started a microindustry mission to Omoa, Honduras. With the blessings of the Bishops of Honduras and Mississippi, they have met weekly to plan teaching stained glass methods to the ladies of Omoa. The main goal of the mission is to teach a skill that can provide an income for families that want to improve themselves and their communities. John has already made two mission trips to Omoa and needs to go back at periodic intervals to continue this ministry. They need your financial support to fund this missionary work. Please make your checks payable to Trinity Church, and appropriately mark the envelopes that are provided in the pews and put them in the collection basket or mail them to the church. Any and all amounts are welcome.
